A anniversary of the Liberation celebrated to reiterate and underline the values of democracy and freedom. But also an April 25th in which there was no lack of a distant spark the Salerno senator of the Brothers of Italy, Antonio Iannone, who responded, via social media, to the message of president of the Province of Salerno, Franco Alfieri, on the importance of «all of us recognizing the values of anti-fascism». «Democracy and freedom are not acquired forever: we are reminded of this by the events that are happening in parts of the world not far from us and, unfortunately, by the same atmosphere that has been felt in Italy for about a year and a half». These are the words of the number one of Palazzo Sant’Agostino which was answered by the representative of FdI. «For about a year and a half – wrote, among other things, Iannone – in Italy there has been an air of democracy and freedom with a Government legitimized by a popular vote. Unlike what had happened in previous years. But for Liberation graduates at evening schools there is freedom only if the government governs PD (by any means)”.
THE CELEBRATIONS
The mass in remembrance for those killed in the church of the Sacred Heart opened the celebrations of April 25th organized by Salerno Prefecture. In Piazza Vittorio Veneto, honors were paid to the fallen and laurel wreaths were placed on the war memorial and on the tombstone of the partisan Lieutenant Ugo Stanzione. Afterwards, the prefect Francesco Esposito greeted those present, followed by the institutional messages of the sindigo from Salerno Vincenzo Napoli and the president of the Province Franco Alfieri. Then, the interventions of general secretary of the CISL Salerno, Maria Carmela Cortazzi, of the president of the national association of families of the fallen and missing in war of Salerno, Antonio Landi, and of the provincial vice-president of the national association of Italian partisans of Salerno, Michela Masullo. At the Sailor’s monument, the solemn flag-raising and laying of the laurel wreath of the National Association of Sailors of Italy. The procession then reached Piazza XXV Aprilewhere a wreath of flowers was placed by the ANPI, before arriving at the Provincial Palace with the placing of the laurel wreath at the foot of the plaque of the Gold Medals of the Resistance. The Italian Hymn, the Hymn to Joy and other traditional songs were performed by the “Lorenzo Rinaldi” instrumental ensemble musical association – City of Giffoni Valle Piana.

«Today – said Prefect Esposito on the sidelines of the ceremony – we celebrate a date, an anniversary of when Italians returned to freedom, democracy and, above all, peace. And this is the premise on which our Republic was built and our history was re-founded. A history that, for many years, has guaranteed us the full exercise of all freedom rights. It is an important date because it is a foundational date for what will be the future of Italy and it is a date from which to draw the values that, today, are needed to fight injustices and wars, to affirm and consolidate freedom, equality and solidarity”. For the mayor of Naples, «in this world in disorder and with unimaginable complexities as far as we are concerned in Italy, professing to be anti-fascists must be a simple fact, a simple declaration. There is no need to mince words: we are anti-fascists.” The president of Anpi Salerno, Ubaldo Baldi, highlighted that, rather than the word memory, “we prefer to use historical memory”.
And he explains: «Historical memory of what was a spontaneous, popular insurrection movement against the Germans and against the fascists who supported them. On April 25th we remember this, which was the foundation of our Republic, the necessary basis for Italy to become a constitutional Republic and a civil Republic.”
