At the “Maso della Pieve” Sports Center in Bolzano, Brunetti Castel Goffredo beat ASV TT Südtirol 4-0 in the first leg of the women’s championship final, directed by Angelo Zambetti and Luciano Cont, placing a heavy threat on the conquest of 21 ° scudetto.
In the first singles, Bernadette Szocs clearly won the first two sets over Debora Vivarelli, who was ahead for a long time in the third and fought until 9-9, giving up the last two points.
In the Italian derby Nicole Arlia recovered against her ex-teammate Gaia Monfardini from 2-4 to 5-4 and from 5-6 she achieved a 6-0 break. In the second set the home athlete was caught at 6-6 from 5-2 and restarted from 7-7 (10-7), taking advantage of the third set-point.
When the game resumed, the Castellana broke out at 4-2, was tied (5-5) and returned to the lead (7-5), obtaining two set points and taking advantage of the second. In the fourth quarter they fought until 8-8 and Arlia won the last three exchanges.
Andreea Dragoman from 9-9 took the first set in the sprint and in the second she went up from 1-5 to 6-6 and from 6-7 she went all the way. Solomiya Brateyko once again extended the lead to 5-1 upon returning to the table and this time held on to the lead, closing the gap. In the fourth set the Ukrainian accelerated to 7-3 from 3-3, from 9-5 she was tied (9-9) and took the two final points, postponing the solution to the “beautiful” one. In the decisive phase the gap widened in favor of the Romanian (6-1), who reached the finish line without any worries.
Monfardini and Szocs played a very balanced first half, in which the local champion failed to score five set-points and the Romanian in the second half prevailed, taking the lead to easily lead the second half and at 10-5 to close it on the third ball useful. After the change of ends Szocs had to chase from 5-2 (5-6) and from 6-6 he led on 8-6. He had three match points and at the first he gave Brunetti the victory.
The return match will be played on Saturday at 4pm at the Pala Tennistavolo “Elia Mazzi” in Castel Goffredo and a draw will be enough for the reigning champions to secure the Italian title.
