PROVINCE OF ALEXANDRIA – In Piedmont last year almost 4 out of 10 candidates failed the theory exam to take the B driving licence. Based on data from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport analyzed by AutoScout24 and Egaf editionsthe percentage of “failed” in our region, equal to 39.4%is in line with the national average recorded in 2023 (39.9%).

According to the same study, among the Piedmontese provinces It’s Novara to have the highest percentage Of failed the theory (44.2%). Verbania follows (42.1%), Alexandria (41.6%), Biella (41%), Cuneo (40.2%), Asti (39.8%), Turin (37.6%) and Vercelli (36.6%). Overcome the obstacle of the quizzes i Piedmontese prove to be decidedly more skilled behind the wheel. Last year well‘83% of Piedmontese passed the driving test. At the provincial level, it is Vercelli to have the highest percentage of those promoted to “practice” (91.7%). This is followed by Verbania (with 88.4% of those promoted), Novara and Cuneo (86.9%), Alexandria (85.2%), Turin (81.8%), Biella (74.4%) and Asti (70.9%).

After analyzing the data from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, AutoScout24 and Egaf edizioni, together with the Italian driving school associations Confarca and Unasca, have decided to also test the skills and knowledge of drivers who have had their license for more than 5 years. And not many people today would still pass the theory exam. Only 20% of the Piedmontese who participated in the simulation with over 2,700 drivers from the AutoScout24 community passed the quiz test with flying colors (the national average is 22.3%). For most others it is not a “complete failure” because the sample of Piedmontese motorists still answered correctly, on average, 15 questions out of 20. The simulation, however, highlights the importance of “constant updates“, also given the changes to the Highway Code in recent years, and also helps to understand which are the most frequent errors in the theory exam.

As for the driving tests, according to the experience of the Confarca and Unasca driving school associations, the most common errors were made at intersections (52% of the members), followed by public transport stops and roundabouts that divert traffic from the main lane (49%), and parking, entry and exit (33%). But there are also other factors that have an impact on the final outcome, such as the size of the city and the difficulty of the roads, also considering traffic (for 76% of driving schools), but above all the candidate’s anxiety (94%) and examiner attitudes about stress (89%).
