SONDRIO. An almost 27-year-old ski mountaineer from Lombardy died today after being swept away by an avalanche on Punta del Cevedale, between the provinces of Sondrio, Trento and Bolzano, in the municipal area of ​​Valfurva, in Alta Valtellina. He lived in Assago, in the province of Milan. Helplessly witnessing the tragedy were his brother and seven other hikers from a single group which, on the descent to the valley, split into two groups. According to the first investigations on the dynamics of the experts of the Sagf-Alpine Rescue of the Financial Police of Bormio, who intervened at over 3000 meters above sea level, it was he himself who caused the avalanche that overwhelmed and killed him.

All the other members of the expedition to the Rosole Valley were unharmed: the drama at 3350 meters above sea level. The alert for the Alpine Rescue teams, VII Valtellina Delegation – Valchiavenna, Valfurva station, arrived just before 3pm. The Sondrio air rescue of Areu and EliLasa, the Sagf – Alpine rescue Guardia di Finanza and the UCV (Rescue dog unit) in Cnsas Lombardo avalanche.

The people who were with the overwhelmed man immediately asked for help and began self-rescue procedures. In the meantime the rescuers arrived. The detachment has a front of about thirty metres; it is a probable avalanche of wind-blown snow (wind slabs), which fell on the shoulder that descends from Cevedale towards the Val Cedec area. The other people, unharmed, were taken to the valley by helicopters. The Carabinieri and the Sondrio Prosecutor’s Office were also informed of the incident.
