The paradox is that if they signed the contract, after a minute they would have a job. Well paid, certainly at a pace that is not exactly gentle, but still permanent. And this is because there is a great need for similar figures throughout the region. Nevertheless the labor crisis is not even sparing pharmacies. Not only that: sales points are now increasingly transforming into small clinics. With the possibility of carrying out tests and carrying out diagnostic consultations. Moral: pharmacists are needed, but they can no longer be found.

Now there is also a shortage of pharmacists

To date, according to professionals’ estimates, this would not be enough not even one hundred professional pharmacists to cover the needs of the stores in Friuli Venezia Giulia. A need that is growing more and more, following the growth rate of the pharmacies themselves, which are now required to make a previously unthinkable leap in quality, with more and more services to offer to the customer than in the past.
In detail, in Western Friuli alone it is estimated that thirty graduate pharmacists are immediately needed to cover the needs of the area. «These are – explained the provincial president of Federfarma, Francesco Innocente – professionals who would find work instantly but who are currently missing». And we are talking – it is worth specifying – of permanent jobs with a very respectable salary.
If we then extend the scope of the investigation to the entire territory of the provinces of Pordenone and Udine, the number of missing pharmacists instead rises to around a hundred professional figures currently missing. The result? This is similar to what happens in other sectors. Small stores, especially those in the most isolated towns, must do what they can to avoid closing. And the others are managed with “short” shifts with the staff available.

Pharmacies, from points of sale to small clinics

They are no longer the pharmacies they once were. The sales points in the area are now called upon to provide a whole series of additional services that were not even contemplated before. An example? Telemedicine. Today in many pharmacies in Friuli Venezia Giulia it is possible to undergo tests such as the electrocardiogram. On the other side of the terminal, then, there is a specialist able to read the trace and draw up a precise diagnosis even if from a distance. This is an element that can help the world of regional healthcare to eliminate at least part of the waiting lists. But at the same time there is also an extra workload for the stores, which struggle to find the staff needed on the market to cover the needs of customers and the increasingly rapid pace of work within the pharmacies of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
