ANCONA A surplus of 12.6 million, half of which was guaranteed by the compensation obtained for the huge fire that devastated the former Tubimar on the night between 15 and 16 September 2020. The insurance advance guaranteed to the Authority amounts to 6 million euros.

The numbers

The data is included in the 2023 final balance sheet of the Central Adriatic Sea Port System Authority, on which the Board of Auditors and the Sea Resource Partnership Body expressed a positive opinion. The fire had reduced the mega warehouse to a skeleton. At the time there were 11 dealers operating within the structure, covering almost 46 thousand square metres, for which demolition began in recent days, which will have to be followed by reclamation. The prosecutor’s office had started an investigation into the fire, but it was not possible to trace the causes of the disaster with certainty.

As regards the budget, the capital account revenues amount to 44.9 million, mainly state funds for port infrastructures and the Pnrr for the implementation of the works program in the Adsp ports. Current expenditure, at 11.7 million, was lower than expected. The administration surplus amounts to 289,705,471.16 euros, of which 444,264.59 euros is available. Last year the body increased its revenue, due to state fees, proceeds from authorizations for port operations and services and for passenger traffic, port and anchorage taxes. «I express satisfaction with the results of what we can consider a virtuous balance – commented the president Vincenzo Garofalo -. A result achieved thanks to the work shared by the entire Adsp structure. A careful management that pushes us to have confidence also with regards to the commitment we must have in the realization of the planned investments in infrastructure for the entire port system”. The Adsp Management Committee has also adopted the functional technical adaptation to the current Plan port regulator for the lengthening of the “former ferrous materials” quay of the Fincantieri factory. The intervention will allow the quay to be increased from 110 to 260 meters in length so as to have a berth suitable for the need to build large ships.

The project

The construction of the extension also involves the construction of an embankment where the current crane runways will be extended and new mooring systems and furniture will be installed. The intervention moves hand in hand with the Fincantieri dock doubling project (80 million investment between public and private funds), which involves the extension of the dry dock from 240 to 300 meters. «It is an intervention – Garofalo’s words – to guarantee the operation of the Doric shipyard, which represents an act of trust in the growth possibilities of the plant and the entire port infrastructure.
