Capistrello remembers its martyrs – L’Aquila

CAPISTRELLO. Marsica celebrates April 25th with ceremonies and testimonies. The Anpi Marsica will be present today in Capistrello alongside the municipal administration and the “Cammino dell’interno” association for the Liberation Day. The anniversary of the liberation from Nazi occupation and the fascist regime will be celebrated and the 33 victims who, on 4 June 1944, were barbarically shot near the railway station will be remembered. The procession from Piazza del Municipio will move, from 10.30am, towards the station square where the laurel wreath will be laid at 11am. The mayor’s speeches will follow Francesco Ciciotti and of Ilius Leonius for the Anpi Marsica. In Avezzano the mayor, Gianni Di Pangrazio, has given an appointment to the civil, military and religious authorities, to the representatives of the police forces, firefighters, arms and voluntary associations in Via General Antonio Gandin at 10. Once gathered there will be honors for General Gandin and the martyrs of Kefalonia and the start of the procession which will reach the square in front of the church of the Madonna del Passo from via Don Minzoni. The laying of the laurel wreath at the monument to the Alpine soldier is expected, followed by the raising of the flag and the laying of the laurel wreath at the monument to the “Freedom of all peoples”. In addition to the mayor, the president of Assoarma will speak Floriano Maddalena and the bishop, Monsignor Giovanni Massaro. Also in Celano the municipal administration will remember April 25th. At 12 all the representatives of the associations and the civil and military authorities will meet in front of the Town Hall. Immediately afterwards there will be a procession and the laying of the laurel wreath at the war memorial in Piazza IV Novembre.
In Tagliacozzo he will be the professor Emanuele Nicolini to give the commemorative speech. The participants will gather in the atrium of the Town Hall at 4.45pm and the procession to the war memorial will take place at 5pm. The ceremony includes greetings from the mayor Vincenzo Giovagnoriothe speech by Nicolini, emeritus administrator of the city and a final prayer by the parish priest, Don Ennio Grossi. Ceremonies for April 25th are also planned in Gioia dei Marsi, Aielli, Sante Marie and other municipalities in the area. (eb)
