Turin and April 25th – Anpi parade in the center: “We defend freedom and democracy”

Witnesses of memory every day, to defend freedom and democracy

With the memory of Bruno Segre, a witness of the Resistance who passed away at the beginning of the year, and underlining the importance of celebrating this day by reaffirming the values of freedom and democracy, which are not to be taken for granted, the mayor of the City of Turin spoke yesterday evening from the stage in Piazza Castello, at the conclusion of the traditional torchlight procession for April 25th. The parade, which started as always from Piazza Arbarello with the banners of the institutions and the Anpi at its head, traveled through the streets of the center to the stage for the greeting of the authorities and the official speech by the historian Carlo Greppi.

This morning the institutional ceremony to pay homage to the fallen was held at the Monumental Cemetery and the day continued with numerous cultural events organized by the City in collaboration with the Resistance and Constitution Committee of the Piedmont Region, the Polo del ‘900 and cultural associations and institutions.

The concert by Fatoumata Diawara, organized by the Foundation for Culture as part of the Turin Jazz Festival and promoted by the City of Turin and the Resistance and Constitution Committee of the Piedmont Region, will close at 9pm at the Teatro Regio. The singer of Malian origins will perform, accompanied by her band, in a show dedicated to resistant youth and especially to Dante Di Nanni.
