SYRACUSE, NY — “It’s good to be back in Syracuse!” President Biden said at the Museum of Science and Technology in Syracuse on Thursday afternoon.

He began today’s visit much differently, by remembering two local law enforcement officers recently killed in the line of duty.

“Lt. Michael Hoosock. County Sheriff’s Department. And Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen. We pray for their loved ones, whose hearts have been broken,” the president said.

Biden came to Syracuse to tout a $6.1 federal investment in Micron Technology, which is the company that is building a four-fab manufacturing complex in Clay over the next 20 years, investing up to $125 billion.

This is Biden’s second trip to the area to discuss Micron.

“American manufacturing is back. New factories are going up all across the country, and communities like Syracuse are writing the great American comeback story!” Biden said.

The president was also here to praise the CHIPS and Science Act for leveraging such outside investment.

The CEO behind the investment did not minimize the legislation.

“None of this would have been possible without the CHIPS and Science Act,” said Sanjay Mehrortra.

He didn’t minimize this moment, either.

“This is, unquestionably, the most exciting time I have seen in my 40 plus year career,” Mehrortra said.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said he foresaw this day.

“I wrote the bill with this day in mind, and here we are,” Schumer said. “This expansion will bring nearly 50,000 good paying jobs. Enough to fill every seat in the JMA Dome.”

Preliminary design, field studies and permitting applications are underway, and construction on the Clay plant is expected to begin some time in 2025.
