VIAREGGIO. She was 77 years old and had been ill for some time: Amelia Paterni in Tofanelli died today in her home. Mrs. Paterni was the inseparable wife of Elio Tofanellilawyer and former historic president of Carnival Foundation, sportsman, football lover, among the founders of the Dukla team and secretary of Viareggio football, as well as television host. A well-rounded character, in short, who always had his wife Amelia at his side, also a true Carnival native, who followed him. Where Elio was there his wife was almost always there and they were a really nice couple.

Both lovers of culture and entertainment, Elio and Amalia never missed book presentations and above all anything that revolved around Carnival. So much so that, despite having health problems, Amelia Paterni did not want to miss the release of the floats for the last Carnival and was also at the Cittadella.

Her husband Elio passed away on Christmas night 2016, at the age of 79. And since then, for Amelia it hasn’t been the same as before, even if her children Monica and Gianluca (who now lives in Viareggio and after having been in Mexico for years has also returned to be close to their mother), have been close to her together to other relatives.

Amalia Paterni, originally from Fishing (from Monsagrati) was the sister of Giuliano, also known in the city as the owner of the historic shoe shop in the market, and of Franco Paterni, councilor of the Green Cross and president of the Pezzini Foundation which built the homes for the elderly in via dei Comparini.

Her whole life was dedicated to her husband, whom she married in 1972, to her children Gianluca and Monica, to her grandchildren Sofia and Roberto of whom she was very fond. The memory of those who loved her and of those who had the opportunity to know her is that of a woman with a cheerful and serene character, contagious qualities.

The Paterni-Tofanelli family has always been very close to the Green Cross, and it is there that Amelia Paterni is found – exhibited from today in the farewell rooms – waiting to be transferred, between Friday and Saturday, to the cemetery for the last greeting. Cemetery where the body will be buried in the family tomb.

The president of the Green Cross, Carla Vivoli, on behalf of the voluntary association, extends her deepest condolences to the entire family.

Her children thank all the family members who were close to her, starting with her brothers Giuliano, Franco and her sister Antonella.
