A great little event. Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi is the referee who has been entrusted today, Thursday 25 April, with the San Siro match between Inter and Torino, scheduled for Sunday at 12.30pm. It will be there first time in history in Serie A for a all-female trio given that the referee from Livorno, born in 1990, will be supported by assistants Francesca Di Monte And Tiziana Trasciatti.
Ferrieri Caputi is no stranger to records. On 15 December 2021, when managing Cagliari-Cittadella, valid for the round of 32 of the Italian Cup, she was the first female referee in the history of Italian football to be entrusted with an official match with a club playing in Serie A. On 1 July 2022 the The referees’ association had instead officially communicated her promotion to the CAn, the national referees commission, the first woman ever to reach the top level of the sector.
The referee and the two assistants were the first ever to referee a match in the main championships together in December 2022: it happened in Frosinone-Ternana, match on the Boxing Day of Serie B. In January 2023, again together, they refereed a Coppa Italia match for the first time, Naples-Cremonese, valid for the round of 16
