work is progressing to make the city more inclusive

The works of the Italian Railway Network to improve pedestrian and cycle accessibility and the removal of architectural barriers of the Grattacielo underpass, in Viale Principe Amedeo in Rimini, are coming to life.

The construction site continues at the intersection with via Rodi and viale Principe Amedeo for the realization of the project to improve pedestrian and cycle accessibility of the ‘Grattacielo underpass’ which involves the redevelopment of the access system to the underpass with the main objective of breaking down the barriers architectural, make it accessible to cyclists and disabled people and resolve safety problems linked to the transit of pedestrians and bicycles in mixed spaces.

In detail, the interventions include the complete renovation of the access ramps to the underpass with the creation of continuous ramps upstream and towards the sea with a slope of between 5 and 8%. On the sea side, the creation of a new access system is planned, consisting of two flights of stairs (at via Monfalcone and viale Rodi respectively) for pedestrian access and a ramp dedicated to the transit of people with disabilities and hand cyclists. On the mountain side, the existing stairs will be replaced by a continuous ramp to remove architectural barriers, with a layout that will connect with the recently redeveloped sidewalks of Piazzale Cesare Battisti at the corner of Corso Giovanni XXIII.

To allow the construction of temporary interfering works preparatory to the new ramp, the total closure of the underpass is expected from 6 May to 31 May. From 1 June the underpass will reopen to transit and the RFI works will continue without the need for closure for the entire summer season. Once the season is over, the construction site will continue on the sea side and on the mountain side with the provision of a new closure of the underpass.
