L’AQUILA – Free spirometry tests for children between 5 and 16 years old and distribution of information brochures to encourage asthma prevention and early diagnosis.

This is the meaning of the initiative, scheduled for next May 7th, of the pediatric allergology and bronchopneumology service of the L’Aquila hospital as part of World Asthma Day, promoted by Simri (Italian society for childhood respiratory diseases) in collaboration with Sip, Federasma and AsmaAllergia children.

On the occasion of the themed day, the pediatric allergology and bronchopneumology service of San Salvatore, of which the doctor is responsible Cecilia Fabiano and which reports to the University Clinic, directed by the professor Vincenzo Salpietrowill carry out free spirometry tests on children, with a view to raising public awareness of the disease, in order to be able to recognize the pathology in good time and combat it with effective therapy.

To have children tested on May 7th, in the clinics in building L 5, first floor, from 8am to 1.30pm, you will first need to book by calling 0862 368564 on April 30th and May 3rd, from 12.30pm to 2pm.

In addition to the spirometry test, the parents of the young patients will be given material containing information on asthma and indications for recognizing the symptoms, so as to contact the doctor in good time.

Spirometry will allow you to identify any problems and, where necessary, to summon the patient to hospital for further investigation.

“Prevention actions that are now implemented by the ASL 1 Abruzzo, in a systematic way, in the various specialties, as part of a 360-degree mission planned by the company management led by the manager, Ferdinand Romano”we read in a note.

“In the Western world, the incidence on the population is one in ten children, with negative consequences in terms of school and work absences as well as healthcare spending. Among the main aspects on which it is necessary to focus the population’s attention are insufficient or imprecise diagnosis, insufficient use of inhaled corticosteroids, excessive dependence on short-acting beta2-agonist inhalers and poor recognition of patients who request specialist evaluation,” concludes the note.
