Located inside the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Pietrasantathe museum offers the opportunity to discover a unique underground route: Here visitors will admire the ancient Greco-Roman aqueductcrossing the Water Museumand the most recent part of the story, walking along the Submerged Decumanus. A descent of 35 meters deep, where a fascinating world awaits you. Thanks to the so-called “Archaeological elevator”, the first in the ancient centre, it is possible to immerse yourself in that underground which holds the secrets of Neapolis. Visitors will stroll among ancient cisterns, illuminated by a scenographic system that enhances their beauty, and also cavities that became anti-aircraft shelters during the Second World War. The past lives again, recalling when water flowed in these places and it fueled the life of Naples in remote times. The underground route of the LAPIS Museum is not just a journey into history, but a real sensorial experiencethanks to immersive installations and projections: from Hall of the Moonwhere an infinite full moon shines, at Story room, in which the holograms of Gennaro and Michela talk about life in the 1940s, up to the Bombing Room, a re-setting of the moments experienced by Naples during the Second World War, which ends with a message of hope and peace. The LAPIS Museum is open every day, from 10.00 to 20.00, with numerous visits from Monday to Friday, with guided tours starting at 10.30 – 12.30 – 1.30 – 15.30 – 16.30 – 18.30; and on weekends at 10.30am – 12.30pm – 2.30pm – 4.30pm – 6.30pm. All free events from 13 to 28 April 2024 for the fourth edition of the Irpinia Terra di Mezzo traveling festivala project created by Fiorenza Calogero which offers many events to discover the monumental, landscape and culinary beauties of the beautiful land of Irpinia. Six special spring events to discover the beauty of six splendid places in the province of Irpinia Sorbo Serpico, Pietradefusi, Santa Lucia di Serino, Salza Irpina, Cesinali and Santo Stefano del Sole who will open their “doors” to visitors to present their cultural beauties and excellent local cuisine. All events are free and are in every municipality a Gastronomic Lounge where you can taste typical dishes and delicacies prepared with high quality local raw materials.
