Appeal for Peace from president Donatella Tesei in Umbria

Appeal for Peace – On the occasion of the celebrations on 25 April in Umbertide, Donatella Tesei, president of the Umbria Region, launched a vibrant appeal to the world, emphasizing the need to activate diplomatic procedures for the resolution of conflicts. During the event, which this year coincided with the 80th anniversary of the 1944 bombings that devastated the town, Tesei forcefully reiterated his universal condemnation of the war.

“There are no smart bombs, war must be condemned always and everywhere,” Tesei said, underlining that weapons and conflicts never lead to wise or lasting solutions. The president recalled that Umbria, known as a land of peace, must be the starting point for a global message that promotes the use of diplomacy rather than military force.

Tesei also highlighted the existence of codified paths for peace discussions, insisting on the need for these initiatives to be supported universally with shared will and commitment. His presence in Umbertide, writes the National Associated Press Agency, was a symbol of commitment and memory for the celebrations, precisely in the place hit hard by bombings during the Second World War.

The commemorations on 25 April also saw the participation of the mayor of Umbertide, Luca Carizia, and concluded with a mass celebrated in Piazza XXV Aprile, the central point of reflections and remembrance of the victims of the conflicts.

With his speech, Tesei reaffirmed Umbria’s commitment to promoting peace and reconciliation, recalling that the true strength of a community lies in its ability to dialogue and build bridges, not destroy. This anniversary offered a moment of reflection on the tragic reality of war and the importance of working together for a peaceful future.
