The vans risk getting stuck at the end of via Pellico: the surreal response of the Municipality to a citizen
Descriptive text here

We report a curious report from a reader to our editorial staff, regarding the problems created by the recently established one-way street in via Silvio Pellico in Bergamo, on the border with Torre Boldone.

Reporting to the Municipality

«Today I reported to the Municipality a traffic problem in via Silvio Pellico recently transformed into a one-way street going up towards via Marzanica, with sidewalks both on the right and on the left – explained the citizen -. This road transformation leads, as mentioned, the vehicles in via Marzanica to have the possibility of turning right (towards Torre Boldone) or left (towards Bergamo). Both branches are very narrow, without sidewalks and horizontal signs. A simple van cannot pass and, if it encounters pedestrians, they have to turn back to protect themselves.”

A situation evident from the photo you sent us attached, to illustrate and make the situation better understood. «After the creation of the one-way system – he summarized in his report to the Municipality – it is very problematic for vans to turn left and impossible to turn right. Furthermore, in such situations pedestrians are at serious risk of accidents.”

A curious answer

According to his observation, the response came from the offices of Palazzo Frizzoni which, however, left him quite perplexed, in particular because the text referred to a street that had nothing to do with the one he indicated. «The one-way street in Via Brigata Lupi – we read in the email sent as a reply – was reversed on 12 April; this reversal was also carried out in view of the upcoming extension of the summer and holiday Ztl of Città Alta, starting from the intersection between via Locatelli and via Brigata Lupi. Vehicles coming from the funicular, no longer being able to turn into via Brigata Lupi, will be able to turn left into via Zelasco”.

As anyone who frequents or lives in the capital will have guessed, via Brigata Lupi, which is located near Piazza della Repubblica, is a considerable distance away, in any case in the city centre, compared to via Silvio Pellico, which is located in the Redona area. By car, to go from one place to another, it takes from ten minutes to just under a quarter of an hour. «Certainly – continues the note – in the first few days changes of this type, despite having been reported in the previous days, create disorientation in motorists who find traffic conditions different from the usual one. However, it will be our responsibility to monitor the situation and make any corrections if deemed necessary.”

A speech that left the reader quite stunned, because in the response he spoke of a path that had nothing to do with the one he called into question. «This is the situation of relations between citizens and the Municipality on the site – concluded the citizen -. It would be funny if there wasn’t something to cry about. I have also attached a photo that I am sending you, certain that the report will have a better outcome than my attempt to provide help to the Municipality, aimed at avoiding uncomfortable situations”.
