Benevento celebrates April 25th, Nazi-Fascism Liberation Day. There are numerous events in the city with the highlight event always being the traditional procession organized by the Anpi. This morning the demonstrators started from Piazza Orsini, crossing Corso Garibali, to the tune of “Bella Ciao” performed by the Grottolella band. The head of the procession then reached Government Palace, where the stage was set up for the usual speeches.
A particularly heartfelt demonstration in the city (over a thousand in attendance), which saw the participation of associations, parties, unions and many young people. Just as there was no lack of support from the municipal administration of Benevento, with the mayor of the city, Clemente Mastella and the city councilor Giovanni Zanoneon the front line on the day of remembrance.
Before the institutional interventions, however, the actor and artistic director of the Solot theater company read the contested monologue of Antonio Scurati, censored by Rai. «Today we celebrate the Christmas of our Republic, because without April 25th there would not have been our beloved Constitution. This date marks the transition between the old fascist Italy and the new Italy of rights and the Constitution” he declares Amerigo Ciervopresident of Anpi Benevento.
«We will always thank those who fought for an Italy different from what it was but also from what it is today. Liberation Day must be celebrated by everyone without distinction in the country. And I’m sorry that this doesn’t always happen in Italy” the words of the mayor Clemente Mastella.
