Syracuse, NY – Southwest Airlines will stop its operations at Syracuse’s Hancock International Airport as of Aug. 4, the company announced today.

The decision is part of a widespread cut in services across Southwest’s network, the airline said.

Along with Syracuse, Southwest is shutting down its operation at Bellingham International Airport in Washington, George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and Cozumel International Airport.

Southwest posted a larger loss in the 2024′s first quarter than for the same time last year, The airline also had previously said the slowdown in production of Boeing aircraft has hurt its growth. The Dallas-based airline operates an all-Boeing 737 fleet.

Southwest has operated flights out of Syracuse since November 2021.

“While we are disappointed to hear this news, we recognize the challenges the airline is facing due to Boeing aircraft delivery delays and lack of available capacity,” Syracuse airport Executive Director Jason Terreri said in a statement.

The release said the Syracuse market was performing as expected, but that Southwest said it had to reallocate its existing planes to other markets.
