ALEXANDRIA – The celebrations in Alexandria for the 79th anniversary of the Liberation have begun at the Urban Cemetery. After the mass in the Cathedral officiated by the Bishop, Guido Gallese, the procession moved to Palazzo Ghilini, seat of the Prefecture and the Province, where it was read the text of the Act of surrender of the Nazi-fascist armed forces in Alessandria signed on 28 April 1945. Having also laid a wreath in the entrance hall of the Municipality of Alessandria, the procession moved up at the Public Gardens of Corso Crimea. The flag-raising ceremony and the laying of a laurel wreath at the war memorial were held in front of the joint guard of honour, banners and banners. After the greeting from the President of the ANPI Alessandria Municipal Section, Dario Gemma, the President of the Province of Alessandria and the Mayor of Alessandria, the speech of the historian and journalist followed Angelo d’Orsi, who was entrusted with the official oration.
During the day, wreaths will also be placed on the War Memorial of Casalbagliano and Cantalupo and on the plaque in memory of Luiz Lopes Dornelles, pilot of the 1st Fighter Group of the Brazilian Air Force in Italy, shot down on 26 April 1945 near the current headquarters of the Scientific High School of Alessandria (Bregola 49).
