Opta statistics

After a series of five consecutive victories against Cagliari in Serie A, Genoa lost the most recent one, 2-1 on November 5th: the last time that the Sardinian team won both seasonal matches against the Ligurians in the top division it was in 2013/14.

Cagliari have only kept a clean sheet in one of their last 20 Serie A matches against Genoa – 1-0 on 26 December 2018, with Alessio Cragno in goal; from an offensive point of view, however, the Sardinians have not found the net in four of the last six matches against the Ligurians in the competition.

Each of Genoa’s last three home matches against Cagliari in Serie A ended with a 1-0 Ligurian success: the last opponent against which this team kept a clean sheet in multiple home games in a row in the competition was Novara , six between 1949 and 2011.

Genoa have lost three of their last five Serie A home games (W1, D1), after having only suffered one home defeat in the first 11 games of this championship played in front of their own fans (W4, D5).

Cagliari have won only one of their 16 away games in this championship and in general have scored just eight points away from home in the current tournament, better only than Salernitana (seven) and Frosinone (six); the last top championship in which the Sardinians recorded less than two successes in the first 17 away matches was 2013/14 (one also on that occasion).

Considering the matches between the teams currently in the last nine positions in the standings, Genoa is the one that has obtained the most points, 25; on the other hand, Cagliari has found five of its seven successes in this championship against these opponents.

Genoa and Cagliari are two of the three teams, together with Hellas Verona, who have scored fewer goals during the first half hour of play in this Serie A – all with six goals.

Cagliari is the team that scores the first goal of the match on average later in this Serie A, on average in the 55th minute of play – on the other hand, Genoa concedes the first goal of the match on average in the 47th minute, only Inter (54′) and Torino (50′) have a higher figure of this type.

Albert Gudmundsson, who scored in the first leg against Cagliari, has scored 13 goals in this championship, only five foreign players have done better in a single Serie A season with Genoa: Juan Esposito (15 in 1932/33 ), Tomas Skuhravy (15 in 1990/91), Carlos Aguilera (15 in 1990/91), Diego Milito (24 in 2008/09) and Rodrigo Palacio (19 in 2011/12).

Nicolas Viola has been involved in three goals in his last two Serie A appearances against Genoa (2G+1A) and overall against no opponent has he been involved in more goals in the competition (three also against Udinese). The Cagliari player also scored one of his five goals as a substitute in the current tournament against Grifone. The last midfielder who scored more goals as a substitute in a Serie A season was Leonardo, in 1998 /99 (six).
