As Potere al Popolo we intend to participate in the next Piedmontese regional elections on 8-9 June, within the Piemonte Popolare list.
These elections arrive at a very delicate phase, in which international tensions are increasing, with the Ukrainian crisis, the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people by Israel and the widening of the crisis in the Middle East.
The West in crisis is blowing on the winds of war, supporting the barbarism produced by its allies such as Israel and reconverting the economy and society to war; in our country the Meloni government acts in full continuity with these trends.
It is more necessary than ever to propose an overall social alternative, and we believe that regional elections are also a tool for working in this direction, interacting with the social sectors that pay the cost of these policies most directly.
In Piedmont, the mandate of Cirio, a centre-right candidate who we have often seen sharing initiatives with the Turin mayor Lo Russo (PD), is coming to an end. Under Cirio, the Piedmont Region continued the trend of making the aerospace sector its flagship: the projects and initiatives undertaken on the topic cannot be counted, among which the financing of the Cittadella dell’Aerospazio in Turin should be mentioned, which it also envisages the opening of a NATO centre.
The Piedmont Region also signed an agreement with the genocidal state of Israel in July 2022, which extends to the war sector.
Under Cirio, the processes of corporatization of healthcare continued, largely carried out by previous regional presidents such as the Democrat Chiamparino; the cutting of public transport, to the detriment of the many commuters in our region; the concreting of the soil; the work on the great useless project of the TAV, also encouraged through the infamous practice of compensation; the attack on the right to live.
The Democratic Party, supported by the inevitable minions of the Ecologist Left and surrounding areas, and the 5 Star Movement will challenge Cirio’s re-nomination. These subjects, being in opposition also on a national level, attempt to adopt a critical and progressive profile, hiding the fact that they have governed several times in recent years at both a national and local level, showing a face completely similar to that of the right.
The usual farce electoral campaign is therefore shaping up, between contenders who we will see pretending to clash, and presenting the other as a great risk for the voters, hiding a substantial practical convergence.
For us, this time too, there is no less worse, or useful vote: instead there is the need to bring a different voice to the electoral campaign, a truly independent and disruptive political proposal, based on some key themes.
Due to the ambiguities in the interpretation of the Piedmontese electoral law, although we believe we have full rights, we are not currently certain that we will be allowed to present the lists without going through the collection of signatures.
As usual, a truly alternative proposal that is foreign to the hegemonic political groups in the country encounters great difficulties even just being able to participate. For this reason, in addition to moving to all political and legal venues to defend our right to present ourselves, we will still collect signatures throughout the region. It’s a question of democracy!
