The selections of the XIX “Giuseppe Di Stefano” International Opera Competition began this morning with the participation of young people from all over the world. With a special repertoire dedicated to Mozart’s opera “Die Zauberflöte”, the competitors began performing in front of an international jury of industry experts, chaired by the famous soprano Luciana Serra.

The competition, organized by the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese in collaboration with the Municipality of Trapani – Department of Culture, aims to discover and promote opera talents, uniting cultures through music.

It is truly exciting to see how this edition has attracted the interest of young singers with such a special repertoire as Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte”. The presence of Luciana Serra as president of the jury, with her connection to the role of the queen of the night, adds a distinctive touch to the competition. And the diversity of the nations represented this year, from Andorra to China, from Germany to Ukraine, adds a unique value to the event”, so declares Walter Roccaro, artistic director of the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese.
It is important to enhance our cultural heritage, especially when it is an intangible heritage such as opera, recognized by UNESCO. It is encouraging to see how many young people are taking up this art form, but it is essential to remember the importance of study and in-depth vocal technique. As the great Callas said, you have to be ready and know how to seize opportunities when they arise. The path requires constant commitment and a serious approach to study, because the voice is a complex instrument that requires a solid technical basis to be able to fully express its potential”– these are the words of Luciana Serra, president of the jury.
The selections will take place until April 27th in the Sala Sodano of Palazzo d’Alì, in Trapani, through preliminary tests, semi-finals and finals, the Gala Concert and the Awards Ceremony will take place on April 28th, at 9.00 pm at the Theater ” M° Tonino Pardo”, in Trapani.
The “Giuseppe Di Stefano” international competition will end with an event open to all, with no entry fee, to allow all opera fans to participate. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate opera music and its global impact, even though its roots are deeply Italian. Welcoming artists from all over the world not only enriches the competition culturally, but also contributes to the economic aspect, acting as a catalyst for the opera season“, says Natale Pietrafitta, managing director of the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese.
