Anti-fascist clause, reinstatement in the municipal regulation that smacks of Liberation

In 2020, the municipal council of the then mayor Rucco decided to modify the anti-fascist clause from the city’s municipal regulations. Four years later, this rule was discussed again in the City Council and, close to 25 April, Italy’s Liberation Day, it was decided to reinstate it with the abstention of the Brothers of Italy: “Vicenza deserves more than sad little theater staged by a left that is increasingly distant from the real needs of the citizens and therefore – Alessandro Benigno reports – the councilors of Fratelli d’Italia who sit in Sala Bernarda will not take part in the vote tomorrow and will abandon the room in front of the useless waste of time. The city council must deal with solving the city’s problems and not become a forum for specious and instrumental propaganda.”

“The wound opened at the time is thus healed and, above all, the dignity it deserves is given back to our city – declared Danilo Andriollo, president of Anpi Vicenza – which was awarded the gold medal for military valor for the contribution given to the Resistance and to the liberation struggle. The partisans remind us that their struggle served to win the freedom of everyone, even of those who fought them. However, they wanted to write in the Constitution that fascism in all its forms is banned this is what we continue to reiterate.”

“We have witnessed an empty discussion on an equally empty provision, which led to the reinstatement of a hypocritically watered-down anti-fascist clause – declared Gian Luca Deghenghi, spokesperson for the far-right citizen group which has repeatedly ended up at the center of accusations of neo-fascism – Lots of anti-fascism profanity and manner in the speeches of the majority’s limping democratic lecture and a substantial balancing act in those of the minority, resulting in a pilatesque abstention from voting. Now that the left-wing administration has managed to plant this flag and the mayor has managed to earn a star to be claimed by his national party of reference, we hope that they implement a change of gear by dealing with the practical issues on which the people of Vicenza are waiting for answers from a year, like that of city safety. Let’s hope not by drafting specific clauses against urban decay, drug dealing, violence, harassment, rape, delinquency and vagrancy, aimed at having the same concrete effect as the anti-fascist one”.

Great satisfaction with the restoration was instead expressed by the CGIL of Vicenza: “because it brings to completion an almost five-year struggle to affirm the political, cultural, ethical and social value of anti-fascism, the foundation of our precious and always current Constitutional Charter and guarantee of the values of democracy, social justice and freedom in our country”
