Sicily: tight controls for public health

During the month of April, the control operations conducted by the Carabinieri of the NAS of Palermo, supported by the local Territorial Army and the ASP, concerned various activities in the Sicilian capital.

The investigations, aimed at safeguarding public health, involved fishmongers in the local market, where an administrative seizure of 107 kilograms of fish, worth around 4,000 euros, was carried out. Failure to comply with food traceability regulations led to the provision.

Furthermore, at a supermarket in the south-western area of ​​Palermo, the unauthorized use of a room as a food storage was discovered. Similarly, structural changes were detected in a downtown bakery without proper health registration.

The overall high administrative sanctions amount to 3,500 euros. Furthermore, in the province of Palermo, a farm was fined a total of 60,000 euros. The violations concerned the lack of company code and the absence of identification markings on the animals, as well as failure to comply with the rules on the traceability of animal feed.
