The school library dedicated to the memory of a young student who died prematurely due to a terrible illness. On Tuesday afternoon, on the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day, established by UNESCO, the inauguration of the library ” Amici di Caterina”: created thanks to the donation from the family of the former student who died prematurely a few years ago, a few months after finishing her studies at San Domenico and shortly after starting to attend Monti.

Present at the dedication were the school director Nicola De Marco with the teachers Mara Serra and Maria Augusta Bertozzi, but also Carmelina Labruzzo (councilor for services for people and families at the Municipality of Cesena), the president of the Institute Council Davide Manuzzi , and of course Caterina’s family together with other teachers and school staff.

The manager introduced the event with reflections on the importance of reading for the human and cultural growth of the person, placing emphasis on the need to continue to support paper libraries, despite the fact that books are now also available in digital format, in the combination of tradition and innovation.

Councilor Labruzzo highlighted how libraries are an asset of the entire city community, even more so if created within educational institutions. The teacher. Serra told Caterina’s story, her illness, and how, at her time, her classmates, the school and some teachers did their utmost to be close to the student and her family, even with trips outside region. Maria Augusta Bertozzi illustrated the connections between library activities and the inclusion of pupils with special educational needs.

Caterina’s mother, in a short speech, thanked the educational community, in particular in relation to the San Domenico school, receiving in turn a plaque with which the school expressed gratitude to the family “to remember Caterina and to cultivate the values of which she and her companions promoted”.

Particularly touching and significant was the presence of Caterina’s classmates, now young adults just entering university studies or the world of work, who, together with some students from the current 2nd and 3rd classes, read passages taken from the books purchased thanks to the donation.

The ribbon cutting was entrusted to Lucia, Caterina’s little sister and current student at San Domenico, and took place on the second floor, in the room used as a library, with a plaque placed next to the entrance door.
