Roseto, 26th edition of the Abruzzo Beaches Cup

“Spiagge d’Abruzzo Cup”, the international youth football tournament, returns from 25 to 28 April with its 26th edition. The historic sporting event was presented during a press conference which took place in the Council Chamber in the presence of the Mayor Mario Nugnes, the Sports Councilor Annalisa D’Elpidio, the Municipal and Regional Councilor Enio Pavone and the president of the AS Roseto Calcio Camillo Cerasi. Also present was a representation of the team from the city of Makarska (Croatia) twinned with Roseto degli Abruzzi.
This edition will see the participation of 92 teams of children aged 7 to 13 who will be divided into different categories: First Kicks (28 teams); Pulcini (32 teams) and Esordienti (32 teams).
The teams will come from different regions (Lazio and Campania the most involved but also Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna, Umbria, Marche, Molise, Puglia) and there will be four foreign teams involved: one from Belgium (coming from La Louviere, a twinned city with Roseto) , one from Croatia (the team from Makarska, the sister city of Roseto) and finally, after the wonderful experience last year, two teams will arrive from Ukraine.
The 230 scheduled matches (35 referees and over 100 staff involved) will take place mainly on the historic Campo Patrizi but will also be played at the Fonte dell’Olmo stadium, on the Cologna Spiaggia pitch and on the Scerne di Pineto pitch.
A large movement is expected not only from a sporting point of view but also from a tourist point of view given that, in addition to the approximately fifteen hundred young players involved, the massive presence of many parents who will want to follow the sporting events of their children is expected. In fact, there will be 7,000 attendees directly linked to the organization of the event but at least 20% more are expected from “do it yourself”, who will rely independently on the agritourism and B&B structures in the area.
It will start on Thursday 25 April, with the traditional parade and presentation of the teams, at 6.00 pm at the Fonte dell’Olmo stadium. The races will then begin and will end on the morning of April 28th. At the end, at the Patrizi field, all participants will be rewarded with the “Spiagge d’Abruzzo Cup” souvenir medal and each team with a cup. For the occasion, as per tradition, the Fair play award made available by the Municipality of Roseto will also be awarded.
