The Spring Edition of the Bread and Pasta Festival will be held in Mazara del Vallo from Saturday 27th to Tuesday 30th April. an event full of flavours, events, fun and social commitment, which has now become indispensable for the people of Mazara and beyond. An event, as the creator Francesco Foggia says, which will move the suburbs to the center. “Last year – Foggia explains – this festival opened the Mazara summer, this year it will do the same. Organizing an event in August on the seafront is simple, doing it in April is very difficult. We expect a lot more people than last year. With events like this, this city can return to the limelight.” The stands and the show area will be located in the historic city center, while the Dinner of the Thousand will take place, in compliance with safety conditions, at the Lungomare Mazzini.
The event was put at risk by a dispute with the administration, which was later resolved: “We demonstrated all the will to hold the demonstration, we never deceived the people. We found the most suitable solution, also making us reflect on the part that had created some problems, that the Dinner of the Thousand should be held where it had been held last year. And we brought the stands to the city centre, with the shows in the enchanting Piazza della Repubblica”. Ribbon cutting on Saturday 27 April at 6pm in Piazza Plebiscito: “Behind it – continues Foggia – there is a huge amount of work not only on my part, but also on the part of the engineer Giacomo Marino, the architect Giuseppe Leone, the professor Paola Barranca, the architect Liliana Ingenito. This event is a team effort, it involves more than 300 people, without neglecting UNAC, they are the real organizers, in collaboration with the Pro Loco”. This year’s theme will be women, with attention paid to gender violence and victims: “During the Supper of the Thousand, women will be celebrated in the gender sense, representative of family, community and city life, to underline the dignity of action and thought. Furthermore, we also involved the Marisa Leo Association (killed in Marsala by her ex-partner last September, ed.), to which we will make a donation. There will be a conference on April 29th at 4 pm, at which Nathalie Caldonazzo will also be present and in the evening she will be awarded with the international Sulana d’Oro award”.
The spring edition of the Bread and Pasta Festival last year gave a lot of visibility to Mazara and this year it pursues the same objective: “An event that brings prestige to the city, the accommodation facilities in Mazara are almost all sold-out. We have filled B&Bs and hotels. We created related industries and brought the economy. Politics must also do this, we must focus on events that bring tourism. In eight editions this event has always brought prestige to the city, even the national and non-national press outlets talk about it. To organize an event like this requires six months of work. We still work today because time was wasted. Thanks to experience and passion – concludes Foggia – we are managing to move mountains”.
