Alpini celebrating at Rondinaia with Bishop Corazza

Last Sunday the annual spring meeting of the Forlì Alpine Group took place, at the ‘La Rondinaia’ Memorial, in the municipality of Bagno di Romagna, but closer and on the Santa Sofia side, which commemorates the Romagna Alpine corps who ‘went forward ‘. At the event, in addition to a group of about sixty members, friends and family, the bishop of Forlì-Bertinoro, Livio Corazza, was present as a guest of honor, who witnessed the raising of the flag and the laying of a wreath, together with the group leader Alpini of Forlì, Carlo Augelli, and in the presence of the president of the Forlì municipal council, Alessandra Ascari Raccagni.

The day continued with the Mass presided over by Bishop Corazza who in his homily remembered not only the deceased Alpini, but urged those present to “continue in volunteering activities, solidarity with the needy and the last and promotion of peace between individuals, groups and in society”. This was followed by an ‘appetizing convivial lunch’, prepared by the Group’s cooks and concluded with the Alpine mountain and Romagna songs of the Group’s singers.

The Rondinaia locality is an ancient parish built around the year 1000 in the castle of the same name which belonged to the feudal lords of Valbona, following their events until the passage to Florence in the mid-15th century. The name derives from the great frequency of swallows and especially swifts that frequented the area. The Alpini of Forlì created their mountain headquarters here.
