The Court of Bari has sentenced the former mayor of Altamura, Giacinto Forte, to six years in prison as part of the investigation into some episodes of corruption. The entrepreneur Michele Fatigati was also sentenced to four years. For the former mayor, who resigned in 2018 following the investigation for which he was also placed under house arrest, a perpetual ban from public offices was also decided in addition to the confiscation of 15 thousand euros and the payment of the same sum as pecuniary compensation in favor of the Municipality of Altamura in the person of the mayor pro tempore.

According to the accusation supported by the Prosecutor’s Office of Bari, Forte would have received a bribe of 15 thousand euros from the entrepreneurs Bertin Sallaku (who settled) and Fatigati, thanks to the intermediation of the former vice mayor of Acquaviva delle Fonti Roberto Tisci (he also agreed ), to «favor Besa Costruzioni in the future awarding of tenders by the Municipality of Altamura, including that for the reuse works for irrigation purposes of the refined waste water released by the purifier serving the town.
