Busto returns to its textile roots with “M(A)Y Fiber” exhibitions

From the “recycling” works of Moffat Takadiwa to the masterpieces of Michelangelo Pistoletto, there are many cultural proposals from Busto linked to “textile art”

Busto Arsizio – A new cultural season opens, particularly suited to the former “Manchester of Italy”, as it arrives in the city M(A)Y Fibrea series of meetings dedicated to textile art, which will take place in Busto between 4 May and 2 June.

The red thread, or rather, as we will see, blue, that connects the different initiatives is the theme of sustainability, addressed in different ways within the works of art on display.

Four exhibitions, with installations in two civic museums and eight collateral events in seven private venues, at the center of a cultural proposal that draws from the historical roots of the city: “Busto renews its identity, with a path that revolves around its DNA, that of textiles” The Councilor for Culture specified Manuela Maffioli. The mayor also agrees Emanuele Antonelliwho said he was sure that “Our grandparents and great-grandparents will be happy to see that we carry forward the message that made our city great” but also remembering the need to have a textile industry that is truly sustainable.

The theme will be forcefully addressed within the exhibition Miniarttextil, which renews its appointment at the Textile Museum for the fifth year. Here not only is the “textile art” exhibition promoted by the Arte&Arte association of Como, in Busto represented by Carlo Pozzoliwill host 54 works (among over 200 proposals) by artists from all over the world, but also tapestries made from recycled materials, including fabric, plastic, and pieces of old computers, by the Zimbabwean artist Moffat Takadiwaalready a guest of the 60th Venice Biennale.

We are very happy to present this 32nd edition of Miniartextil” Pozzoli commented, underlining the historical impact of the initiative, designed to celebrate the two thousandth anniversary of Pliny the Elder. What better way to remember perhaps one of the first Westerners to mention silk, in his “Naturalis Historia“, if not through a “textile art” exhibition?

In addition to the already mentioned Takadiwain the Twin Rooms of the Textile Museum you can also observe the works of Brankica Zilovic, Kato Kimiyasu, Medhat Shafik, Antonella De Nisco, Alessandro Lupi, Yari Miele, Donatella Simonetti, Anne von Freyburg.

Also at “Tessile” you can also see “Third Paradise”, the work of the master Michelangelo Pistolettoalready exhibited at the UN Palace during the discussions on the 2030 agenda, precisely by virtue, as recalled Fortunato D’Amico of “Fondazione città Dell’arte”, of its climate message: “We need to make a change and, starting from this artifice that we have created, rethink industry, the economy and society”.

Accompanying it is another work by Pistoletto, the iconic “Venus of Rags”, which can be visited at Palazzo Marliani Cicogna thanks also to the commitment of the museum curator Silvia Vacca and Busto entrepreneurs. The immense pile of rags from which the statuesque Venus “fishes” will in fact be made up of textile waste from local production.

Returning to the Textile Museum, on the second floor it will be possible to visit the exhibition “The secrets of the Blue” dedicated to the history of color in the textile sector, edited by Erika Montedoro and the Museums Office, with the advice of the textile historian and chemist Luigi Giavini.

In the new exhibition space on the second floor of the Museum, it will be possible to visit a thematic exhibition of samples, labels and vintage magazines, fabrics, yarns and dyeing testswhich together tell the fascinating world of blue in the textile field, also revealing some secrets of the “color cuisine”.

Furthermore, throughout the event, there will be guided tours for adults and workshops for families.
