Rita Scapinelli and Ali Rashid, candidates for the European list”Peace, Earth and Dignity“will participate in Carrara, next Friday 26 April – at the social hall of the parish of SS. Annunziata in via Bassagrande – to a public initiative particularly focused on peace issues. In particular, Scapinelli will speak on economic and social issues linked, also in our country, to the so-called “war economy” and military spending, while Rashid will outline a picture of the tragedy of the Palestinian people in Gaza. Local and regional exponents of the realities and forces that make up “Peace, land, dignity” will speak.

Rita Scapinelli 69 years old, retired teacher, currently member of the Secretariat National and National Anti-Fascism Manager of the Communist Refoundation Party. During your working activity you have been very committed to issues and projects relating to environmental education. He boasts long experience in local institutions: councilor for education and deputy mayor in his town of residence (Goito MN) from 1994 to 1998, he then continued his experience as a municipal councilor in the opposition for more than 20 years, also taking part in the Council National Anci. Elected Provincial Councilor, you carried out the functions of President of the Provincial Council of the Province of Mantua from 2001 to 2006, President of the Lombard Council of Council Presidents, and member of the Equal Opportunities Commission of the UPI. On the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the Resistance and Liberation he chaired a provincial committee made up of all the mayors of the province, historians, Anpi and CGIL, representatives of the Curia and the Jewish world, which worked for three years on the publication of books and the organization of events to remember the Resistance. You have been involved in anti-fascism issues in recent years and you strongly believe it is necessary to produce knowledge among young people about what fascism and neo-fascism were and provide them with tools to be able to fight them. And since the Constitution is anti-fascist in all the articles that compose it, she is convinced that it is essential to activate with all forces for its defense and its implementation starting from Article 11 which repudiates war, but which unfortunately is continually violated . “In Europe, a right-wing wind is blowing that is increasingly stronger and this has now become evident and dangerous – claims Scapinelli – The European Union, through historical revisionism, which is spreading in European states, has determined a new structurality of the right which occurs in forms of government and social practices, which is why it is necessary to stop the advance of these extreme right-wingers. I am on this list because I believe that peace is the first objective that we all must set ourselves: peace is not impossible. We just need to stop putting the economic interests of the powerful before the primary needs of the people, of women, men and children, innocent victims of the many wars that surround our country. We must reiterate in every situation that war is madness, madness that tramples on the dignity of those who suffer war. I am on this list because I believe that the right to decent work, the right to freedom of thought, the right to have equal social dignity are inviolable rights for which it is worth committing oneself to the end by making one’s abilities and skills available. experiences and one’s time”.

Ali Rashid he has a degree in political science.
