The press conference to present the. was held today in the “Brick Room” of the Bank of Asti “Grifone Meeting”.

Emotions are announced on the track for the 2024 edition scheduled for Thursday 23 May at the Campo Scuola in via Gerbi. For Asti it will be the first time that it will see an event take place on its territory meeting international athletics competitionafter the previous editions were held in Grosseto, Tuscany.

In addition to the already announced challenge on the weight platform between the Italians Leonardo Fabbri and Zane Weir, there are several excellent participants in the different disciplines, including the Olympic silver medal in the 800 meters Ferguson Rotich.

It is a great source of pride for the Piedmontese city to host a competition of this caliber, to open what will be weeks of fire for the athletes, first engaged in European championships in Rome and subsequently in Paris Olympics.

The meeting, which remained at a national level until 2013 and later evolved into an international competition thanks to the renovation of the track, was held for twenty years in Castiglione della Pescaia (Grosseto) thanks to the commitment of the Atletica Castiglionese company and in particular to the tenacity of Elisabetta Artusodirector since the first edition, who at the time was still a top athlete (8 times Italian champion of the 800 meters, 3 outdoors and 5 indoors)

The Vice President of the Region, the Deputy Mayor of Asti Stefania Morra, the Vice President of the Province Simone Nosenzo and the CONI Delegate for the Province of Asti Lavinia Saracco arrived to attend with honor, who said they were a little scared at the beginning, but excited and honored to have been chosen to host such a high-level event.

On May 23, the date chosen for the event, the Asti area will also be visited President of the Republic Sergio Mattarellawhich will be a source of honor for the city, to make itself increasingly known.

It will also be an opportunity to introduce younger people to sport. It is no coincidence that on the day preceding the meeting, i.e. Wednesday 22 May, the “old people” will always be organized at the Campo Scuola in via Gerbi Youth Games, which will allow fourth and fifth graders to see from a few meters away international athletes participating in competitions such as the Olympics, and try their hand at the various disciplines of athletics.

Also present FIDAL Piedmont Councilor who is keen to reiterate how all this is a great source of pride, and the emotion of seeing great champions who will be at the European Championships and the Olympics, first pass on our track is great.

Furthermore, it could be an important opportunity not only for the international athletes, who in this competition will already have to reach almost “Olympic” scores to prepare as best as possible, but also for all those who tread the Asti track every day, and will receive greater incentives to do always better from these great sportsmen.
