Is titled “Discover Matera – Art, history and traditions”the tourist guide for children, commissioned by the municipal administration and created by the Pesaro publishing house “Mediabooks”, in the national “Divertimappe” series born ten years ago and already a showcase for many Italian cities.

In the “Mandela” room For the presentation of the 49-page brochure there was the mayor Domenico Bennardi, the councilor for Culture and Tourism, Tiziana D’Oppido, and the Pesaro publisher Dario Mezzolani.

The guide is an illustrated and cheerful journey that contemplates all the excellences of the city of the Sassi, divided into three tourist itineraries with as many virtual guides, like the figure of the “munacidd”, character from the Matera tradition who tells why he is so mischievous; then there is Count Tramontano, who tells his tragic story, and the legendary whale Giuliana.

Three routes that start from the Sassi (“Lost yourself in the Sassi”), to the Piano and the civita, up to the Murgia and the villages, contemplating the monumental, historical, food and wine and even cinematographic traditions of Matera.

All accompanied by interactive games and much more.

A concept created for children, but aimed at involving the whole family, already highly appreciated as a support by Matera tourist guides.

Printed in 10 thousand copies, the guide will be distributed through bookshops and the main tourist outlets, but distribution in schools cannot also be ruled out.

An interactive app for mobile phones and an ebook are also being developed, which will soon be downloadable.

«With this initiative – explained Bennardi and D’Oppido – financed through the tourist tax, we continue the path undertaken with the project that led to the publication of the brochure “Pimpa comes to Matera”promoting local and family tourism with a useful tool also at trade fairs and, why not, a means of understanding the city for Matera’s children too.

The intent is to describe the city through an original perception of it, that is, without linking it to the tourist stereotypes to which we are now accustomed.

The child will be stimulated by a new and unpublished story, in turn becoming a spokesperson and stimulus for the whole family.”

After the initial distribution of 10 thousand copies, it will be possible to reprint the guide based on the demand that will occur over time.
