Forty-four projects that last the whole year, involving associations and citizens in co-creation and co-participation paths. A thousand appointments “busy” but also very popular. Among which 4 major events usable between now and autumn by people of all ages, tourists and travelers who love beauty and not just the sea. This is the program for the next few months in Pesaro, Italian capital of culture 2024, a city grappling with the manufacturing crisis which is relaunching itself this year as an all-round destination.
Immediately a gem, at the beginning of summer. Among the most important performing artists of our time, here is the Serbian at the Pescheria Visual Arts Center Marina Abramović with the national premiere of “The Life” (at the beginning of June, on www.pesaro2024.it all the updates on the dates). Another national premiere is “Twin color”, an audiovisual show by Murcof and Simon Geilfus (24 May, Teatro Sperimentale, and until 9 June inside Sonosfera®, a unique sound amphitheater in the world). And again “Kagami” (mirror in Japanese), a digital concert dedicated to the legendary composer and musician Ryūichi Sakamoto, who passed away last year (29 August – 11 September at the Rossini Shipyards). The fourth event is “Remote Pesaro” (in October), a collective project by Rimini Protokollone of the most influential international companies in the contemporary theater scene.
The program is rich (with many free shows) based on the “epochal challenges we are experiencing, the environmental and cultural ones”, as underlined by the mayor, Matteo Ricci. A theme framed in the dossier “The nature of culture”the work of a group of twenty-year-olds, who investigates the interaction between art, nature and technology «to design, together, the city of the future, tying together urban regeneration, green economy and social happiness», as he says Silvano Straccinigeneral director of Pesaro 2024. In addition to the major events mentioned, the extraordinary openings of houses and museums (from the bicycle museum to the Palazzo Ducale, from the Rossini museum to the archaeological one), the city, muse of modernity, is hosting this year the 8th KUM! Construction sitesfestival directed by Massimo Recalcati (5-7 April).
They are included in the program concerts (on 23 and 24 April The Nuclear Tactical Penguins), Capital Encounters to present the books with the authors (on May 3rd the latest novel by Gianrico Carofiglio), events for the general public such as the CaterRaduno of Rai Radio2 (1 June-31 July), supported by Coop, the 60th International Exhibition of New Cinema (June 14-22), on Festival passes (26-30 June), with Fano, dedicated to literature and non-fiction, the 45th Rossini Opera Festival for opera, extended for the occasion to 17 days (11-23 August) with four works on the bill including the “Viaggio a Reims” directed by Claudio Abbado 40 years ago, directed by Luca Ronconi, here in concert form. And again theHangartfest, international contemporary dance festival (1-30 September). But if we want to look for just one thing, the heart of the proposal that made Pesaro’s candidacy win over other cities two years ago, we cannot ignore Biosphere, the sculptural-digital installation that recalls the art of Arnaldo Pomodoro and which will remain as a legacy to the city: a crystal sphere 4 meters in diameter, located in Piazza del Popolo, which dialogues with the public. 20 minute screenings every two hours, for those hungry for selfies or reels social but not only, also eco-sustainable given that the sphere has zero energy impact.
Among the most interesting projects, as has already been mentioned, is the Sonosfera®, an amphitheater open all year round to listen to the sounds of ecosystems at risk of extinction, collected on the planet. And given that the city of the future can only be polycentric, the macro-project 50×50 Capitals squared provides that the fifty municipalities of the province of Pesaro and Urbino, in rotation, are capitals for a week. The advice is to check, before leaving, who is on duty during the period you are most interested in, and go and look around.
