Appointment in Prato della Valle with “L’Europa in Prato” from Sunday 28 April to Wednesday 1 May to discover the tastes, colors and traditions of the great European market.

This year’s edition will be the nineteenth and, thanks to a favorable calendar, it will unfold over four days (from Sunday 28 April to Wednesday 1 May from approximately 9am to 11.30pm) demonstrating that “what is liked becomes tradition”.

“Europe in Prato”, the event organized by FIVA (Italian Federation of Street Vendors) National Confcommercio and by FIVA Ascom Padova, with the patronage of the Municipality of Padua, Department of Commerce and Productive Activities in collaboration with the Padua Chamber of Commerce and Venicepromex, has become tradition precisely because it continues to recall, in Prato della Valle, one of the largest squares in Europe, hundreds of thousands of people.

“Europe in Prato”, – ha declared the President of Confcommercio Ascom Padova Patrizio Bertin who was accompanied by the general director Otello Vendramin – it is an event that has proven to be very attractive and which, in terms of attendance, brings important numbers to Padua. We have news that the hotels in the city, but also those in the beltway and beyond are all full. Obviously it is the May 1st long weekend that is the driving force, but for the tourists who come to Padua for its cultural appeal, also offering an event of this magnitude means promoting our territory in an intelligent and diversified way. This is what Confcommercio Ascom Padova means by “synergy”: bringing together institutions, trade associations and operators to make Padua a great tourist destination”.

The event

“Europe in Prato” is a large market fair with free entry where you can find street food, crafts and typical products, with exhibitors from all over the world.
The idea behind the event is to bring together Italian and European operators with the Paduan consumer.

In percentage, in the European market, the counters of foreign origin make up 70%, while the representatives of Italian regional specificities make up the remaining 30%. From a product perspective, there is a balance between food banks and the non-food sector.

“The return of “L’Europa in Prato”, between April and May, is one of the most classic and appreciated events that Padua offers during the year – he explained the President of FIVA Confcommercio Ascom Padova Ilario Sattin – And it returns in style because the number of operators, around 150, is significant, as are the presences: an extremely varied and qualified mix that brings operators from Italy, Europe and the world to Padua. All with the aim of perpetuating the image of a city which, thanks to its University, is traditionally open to people”.

Products

At “L’Europa in Prato” you can have lunch and dinner and purchase absolutely typical and unique products. You will therefore be able to taste the famous waffles from Belgium, the Dutch minicrepes, the pandolce from the Czech Republic, the Spanish churros but also the sugared almonds from Avola and the classic German frankfurters, the Sicilian arancini, the grilled Argentinian meat, the Valencian and Catalan paella, gastronomic specialties from Mexico and Brazil, typical Tuscan, Abruzzo, Umbrian, Piedmontese and Apulian food specialties. In Prato della Valle you can also purchase quality objects, such as ceramics, costume jewellery, Irish gadgets, spices from around the world, natural cosmetics, pop-art prints and paintings, bicycle items, dried flowers and plants. For the first time Scotland will also be present with its kilts to represent the different clans.

Valley Meadow

“Thanks to this great event, every year Prato della Valle becomes a crossroads of flavors and traditions that attracts many people – ha remembered the Councilor for Commerce of the Municipality of Padua – Our idea of the city is a place capable of offering 360-degree events as will happen during the long weekend that extends until May 1st, in which the attractions of the city of art will be accompanied by an event capable of filling and animating our square larger, always dedicated to major trade events. I therefore thank Ascom Confcommercio Padova for the commitment which is renewed year after year and enriches the calendar of city events with this long-awaited event experienced by both Paduans and non-Padua”.
