A historic step towards energy democracy in the province of Caserta: the first Renewable Energy Community (CER) was born in San Potito Sannitico. In recent days, at the municipal headquarters in Piazza della Vittoria, in the presence of the mayor Francesco Imperadore, the first energy community in the Province of Caserta was established before the notary. A local development model based on the sharing of energy from renewable sources, born from the synergy between the Municipality, the innovative start-up Koala and over 100 citizens and businesses in the area.

The CER of San Potito Sannitico stands out for its inclusive and participatory character. A concrete example of how collaboration between local authorities, businesses and citizens can give life to sustainable projects that create value for the territory and for people. A model of energy democracy that puts citizens at the center, active protagonists in the production and consumption of clean energy. Over 100 citizens and businesses have already signed up, a figure that testifies to the interest and awareness of citizens towards the energy transition and the desire to be active protagonists of this change. The renewable energy community of San Potito Sannitico will be able to benefit from a 40% non-repayable contribution from the GSE for the construction of production plants from renewable sources.

“We are very satisfied, as a municipal administration, to have established, first among the municipalities of Terra di Lavoro, the Renewable Energy Community which is an example of active and conscious participation, as well as a model for energy self-sufficiency and sustainable development. The CER of San Potito Sannitico, thanks also to the massive participation of citizens and local businesses, aims to achieve energy democratization and decentralization objectives, through the production of energy from renewable sources and encouraging widespread self-consumption of the same to increase local independence . This will allow a reduction in energy costs, with an estimated saving of more than 20%. An important advantage will also be the economic and social development of the municipal territory with the creation of new job opportunities and investment in territorial development projects”, declares the mayor, Francesco Imperadore.
