An exhibition and many other initiatives to celebrate the eightieth anniversary of the Liberation of Siena: this is what the provincial Anpi organized on the occasion of the celebration on 25 April. The protocol includes a great variety of events that go beyond the official celebrations. In fact, there is also a strong participation from schools of all levels, which in every municipality in the province of Siena have distinguished themselves thanks to their children, through recreational, literary and artistic activities. Furthermore, just yesterday the signature of the renewal of the agreement protocol between the National Association of Partisans of Italy and the Ministry of Education arrived.

“We are happy that the school children responded and contributed to celebrating Liberation Day – comments Silvia Folchi, president of Ampi Siena -. Last week, the local high schools participated in a conference at the university for foreigners, dedicated to the twelve university professors who had refused loyalty to fascism in ’31. With the Sovicille middle school we followed a path, through interviews and outdoor excursions, which led the children to present good research on the period of the Resistance in our territory”.

Among other important initiatives, an open-air exhibition entitled “Siena libera 80” has been installed in Piazza Matteotti since 22 April.

“It is an exhibition open to all – explains Folchi -, where the stages of the Liberation of Siena in 1944 are illustrated through images, phrases and stories. Thanks to the collaboration with various institutions, it was possible to collect the most representative testimonies and photos of the period of the Resistance”.

Finally, the Tuscan territory will be able to celebrate the Liberation tomorrow together with the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, who will be visiting Civitella Val di Chiana in the province of Arezzo.
