Poletti: “I will be in Civitavecchia on April 25th”

The mayoral candidate of Leali, Legali, Liberi, Forza Italia and Italia Viva, Paolo Poletti, will be in the city tomorrow for the anniversary of April 25th for the liberation from fascism.

“April 25, 1945 is the day on which the Upper Italian National Liberation Committee proclaimed the general insurrection in all the northern territories – explains Poletti – still occupied by the Nazi-fascists. Fortunately for Civitavecchia the war had ended 320 days earlier, on 9 June 1944, with the entry of allied troops into the city, four days after Rome.

It was also the end of a great nightmare. With the frightening average of once every three days, the B 57 bombers had darkened the skies of the abandoned city from the south-west after the first tragic incursion on 14 May 1943. That day alone there were 400 deaths while 25 thousand people abandoned their severely damaged houses taking refuge in the hills.

But Civitavecchia with “firm courageous and proud demeanor and with its numerous fallen, in that period gave constant proof of civility and profound love for the homeland. Despite the mutilations and deaths, faithful to the traditional ideals of freedom, he actively participated in the resistance and the clandestine struggle.” This is written on our medals, the silver one for Military Valor and the Gold one for Civil Valor, of which remote the citizens of Civitavecchia can still be proud of so many years. Tomorrow I will be present at April 25th in Civitavecchia together with many friends”.
