SCILLATO (PA) (ITALPRESS) – After the financing for the doubling of the Corleone bridge, another important infrastructural intervention arrives for Sicily. In fact, on the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway, the works at the Capraria tunnel between the Buonfornello and Scillato junctions, in the direction of the Etna capital, have been completed: 1,800 meters of route which are now accessible to traffic again. The reopening of the roadway was attended by Renato Schifani, in the dual role of president of the Sicilian Region and extraordinary government commissioner for the management of the A19, and the regional councilor for Infrastructure Alessandro Aricò. The completion of this stretch is an integral part of a more massive intervention which, explains Schifani, has the objective of “making this motorway completely or almost totally free by December 2026: the A19 had never been subject to maintenance interventions ordinary and extraordinary, Anas’ work now amounts to over 800 million with the involvement of many construction sites. My push, through the commissionership that I myself requested, goes in the direction of speeding up the works”. What favors this speed, adds the regional governor, is the fact that “a team spirit has been created and this has led to a sort of competition between companies for who finishes first”. According to the data reported by Anas, in the first months of 2024, ten construction sites have already been completed along the Palermo-Catania line, with a cost of 27 million euros for the works; by the end of the year another thirteen should be completed, with an outlay of 85 million. At the end of 2023, three other interventions worth a total of 105 million had already been started, while another three started at the beginning of 2024 at a cost of 22 million; other works should be started by the end of the year, with funding of around 100 million. As regards traffic flows, between mid-July and September the suspension of some motorway construction sites is expected, in order to make traffic usable with fewer diversions: the objective set by Anas is, on the 196 km that separate Palermo and Catania, not to go beyond 30 km of closed areas.
