Regional Councilor Francesco Paolo Scarpinato will be present

The Regional Councilor for Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity, Francesco Paolo Scarpinato, will be present at the Open Day planned by the architect Anna Occhipinti, director of the Archaeological Park of Lilibeo-Marsala, for next May 12th (and no longer on May 28th April, as initially established), from 10.00 to 13.00.

The event is aimed at illustrating the new findings coming from the excavation and research activities in the area of the Punic Moat (piazza Marconi/via Amendola), which emerged after the reclamation of the waste accumulated over time and the weed vegetation, thanks to the project of valorization financed by the Regional Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity, strongly supported by the Hon. Stefano Pellegrino.

The entrance will take place from the archaeological area of Vico Infermeria (contiguous to the underlying moat, with which it was connected); the public of visitors will be divided into groups and guided in the visit by the archaeologist Marco Correra and his team, which carried out the excavations (Cooperativa Archeofficina), with the scientific direction of Maria Grazia Griffo, archaeologist of the Lilibeo Park.

The Open day on 12 May will also be an opportunity to show the city a preview of the project, drawn up by architect Antonio Mauro, which will be able to give – following further, desirable funding – a new face to the ancient defensive system, to become an “urban park in the excavated landscape”.
