«Unfortunately what happened to councilor Piccolo does not surprise us, Mayor Cannito is no stranger to these behaviors bordering on misogyny which must absolutely be stigmatized and stopped. All our solidarity goes to Raffaella.” Thus, in a post on her Facebook profile, the group leader of the Democratic Party in the city council, Rosa Cascella, on the mayor’s alleged insults to the Forza Italia city councilor, Raffaella Piccolo.

«The insults directed by Cannito to councilor Piccolo are just yet another episode of rudeness by the mayor towards a woman. You will probably remember the tone and behavior he used towards Santa Scommegna during the electoral campaign: he really doesn’t like women in politics.
To this already very serious aspect must be added another equally regrettable one. While the Mayor poured out his fury on councilor Piccolo, none of those present had the courage to interrupt him to defend a young girl who was the victim of the mayor’s reckless anger. This is a truly disturbing fact. Evidently the fear of losing seats has prevailed over common sense and civility. The beautiful words flaunted at conferences and anniversaries dedicated to women are promptly contradicted by the facts. We express our utmost solidarity and closeness to councilor Piccolo, assuring our commitment to contrasting and combating inappropriate, disrespectful and misogynistic behaviour.”
