“This is why Valentina Piraino resigned”

The former Liberi leaves the majority after the resignation of the former deputy mayor.

Vito Milazzo, Marsala city councilor was among the protagonists of the city council meeting on Monday 22 April.

As a de facto councillor, you and your Action for Marsala group have moved into opposition. Do we want to reconstruct the story that led you to make this decision?

“When the Liberi movement decided to nominate Massimo Grillo as a candidate for mayor, I did everything I could to ensure that the former parliamentarian was the winner. I collaborated in the drafting of the program and in all the immediately subsequent steps by running for office and being elected.”

And then?

They were special years that naturally involved everyone in the interests of the city. From the beginning I expected not so much immediate results, but a different approach in terms of administrative and political relations”.

Tell us more…

“For example, I have never participated in any meeting in which important administrative documents were prepared. I had my say in the institutional forums regarding the Budget, but without any political passage in which the majority could have their say, before the act arrived in the Chamber. The mayor favored interpersonal relationships rather than dealing with the majority who had elected.”

You continued to support the mayor even when the Liberi group disbanded.

Having joined Azione di Calenda it seemed appropriate to leave Liberi and found, together with my colleague Piero Cavasino, the new group which my colleague joined as an independent. But we still remained in the majority.”

Then comes the story relating to the former deputy mayor Valentina Piraino…

“With the’former member of Grillo, a harmony was immediately found in terms of work and search for solutions in the interest of the city. Even though we didn’t understand her motivations, we sensed that the relationship between her and the mayor was deteriorating. When the council needed to be replenished with new councilors, the rumor persisted in political circles that Grillo was looking for a new figure to assign the position of vice mayor. We spoke with Valentina Piraino and proposed that she remain in the council even without her as vice mayor, as part of our group. Even though she was bitter, she accepted.”

So why did she resign?

“Naturally we forwarded the proposal to Massimo Grillo who, as I said in my speech in the Council Chamber, rejected our request. A way of saying either it remains as my expression or it goes away. I believe that all of this is behind Valentina Piraino’s decision. We are very saddened by the mayor’s choice given the excellent work that was being carried out. The mayor himself of the councilors who for various reasons left the council and were “greeted cordially by the Council, took credit for having appointed them. And then why did he replace them?

What will your group do now?

“We will continue to work in the interests of the city, voting favorably for the acts we deem necessary, but placing ourselves in opposition.”
