The ‘reshuffle’ of the Apulian council has materialised, after complicated weeks following investigations which looked at the intertwining of corruption and politics in the territory and the request from many quarters for a change of pace in the regional government. The afternoon began with the announcement of the resignation of the health councilor Rocco Palese who announced the step backwards “considering the current political situation – reports Ansa – I thought it appropriate to formalize my resignation as councilor, also in the hope that this can favor a quicker solution that allows the regional government to resume and continue working for the good of the citizens of Puglia”.

“I thank President Emiliano for his never-failing trust in me and I renew my esteem for him. My contribution to this regional government – says Palese – has always been of an exclusively technical nature, certainly not political, but precisely because I understand the difficulty of the current political situation, with the same spirit of service with which I accepted to join the Council, I have resigned – he adds – the director and all the employees and collaborators of the Health department with whom we have carried out work in these two years not of little importance. I believe I have made a contribution in the name of commitment always made with discipline and honor, of dedication and protection of the regional health service, producing universally recognized results: in a short time we have almost eliminated the health deficit and brought the Puglia Region in a position to exit the recovery plan. I hope, and I am certain, that President Emiliano will be able to make the best choices to continue on this path not only in the health field and always with the good of the people of Puglia as his sole objective”.

Subsequently, President Michele Emiliano signed three councilor appointments: for the Environment, in place of Anna Grazia Maraschio, there is Serena Triggiani, who will also have responsibilities for Waste Cycle and Reclamation, Environmental Supervision, Parks, Industrial Risk, Housing Policies , Industrial crises and gender policies.

There is also the councilor for Legality and Social Anti-Mafia: she is Viviana Matrangola, who will also manage the delegations to Culture, protection and Development of Cultural Enterprises. The new councilor for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, however, is the regional councilor Debora Ciliento, who will fill the space left by the resigning Anita Maurodinoia.
