Treviso, children disturb the neighbors: the school moves recess

Children in the garden too noisy hey neighbors climb onto the barricades. It happens at Moglianoin the Treviso area, where the little pupils of the Giuseppe Verdi primary school in via Favretti were used to spending their time outdoor recreation, all together, especially after the lunch break, around 2.30 pm. Games, shouting and chasing which evidently seemed excessive to many inhabitants of the neighborhood, so much so that they went so far as to protest with the Minerbi comprehensive school of which Giuseppe Verdi is a member. And so therehe school director, Antonella Di Cerce, has chosen to take action to put an end, precisely, to the complaints about the noise of children playing outdoors, received from the inhabitants neighboring Via Favretti. The children will no longer go out all together for an hour but divided into two shifts of half an hour each. Also, recreation it was moved to a smaller area of the garden and far from the homes of the neighbors annoyed by the small elementary school students in the neighborhood.

The collection of signatures

Children’s families members of the Verdi have collected 188 signatures and they wrote a long letter to the head teacher asking for a meeting and, above all, the reasons behind the restrictions introduced. The school also has a Montessori-style section, further complication, given that many families, even non-residents in the area, have chosen it precisely for its “beautiful garden which acts as a backdrop to the school and which could even, in the spring season, host outdoor lessons for our children”, we read in the letter sent to the Institute in recent days.

The political side

But there’s more. Because now the conflict also becomes political. Leading the request to keep children with the silencer Lino would also be there Sponchiadocurrent president of the municipal council of Mogliano and today supporter of the candidacy for mayor of former councilor Giuliana Tocchet, with a civic list. On the other hand, the mayor (centre-right) Davide Bortolato cuts the whole story short and sides with the families. “I find it paradoxical that a candidate for mayor who promotes and knows how to talk exclusively about social issues presents a civic list whose leader is hostile to children”, states the mayor. «I really find it sad that children pay — he continues — which are the most extraordinary engine of our future. We will take an active part in ensuring that the parents’ request is accepted”.

The president of the city council

Sponchiado, in reality, himself lowers the tone on the matter even though in the past he had already highlighted the “noise” problem linked to the presence of children in that area. In that case it was the summer camps that were targeted. «The 2021 summer centerthe only year in which it was activated in this school – he explains – it closed immediately because the unsuitability of this site to host this service was recognized which, before and after that year, had taken place elsewhere. My family and I are now often absent during school breaks due to mutual commitments. On the occasions when I am at home, lessons and breaks are organized like in other primary schools, therefore without problems.”
