“Carnaio” or “The God of Massacre” at the Ambra Theatre

The ruthless comedy by Yasmina Reza directed by Maurizio Pellegrino at the Ambrabramadimusicaeteatro review

ALEXANDRIA – The Ambrabramadimusiceatro season at the Ambr Theatrecontinues with a comedy with paradoxical implications, a masterpiece of writing by the French author Yasmina Reza, from which Roman Polanski also based the acclaimed film Carnage in 2011, with Kate Winslet and Jodie Foster. Saturday 27 April at 9pm I will be on stage “Carnaio” or “The God of Slaughter” directed by Maurizio Pellegrino and starring Raffaella Calorio, Massimo Orsi, Claudia Chiodi, Carlo De Bernardi.

The plot tells of the meeting of two families, who met to discuss, with due good manners and education, the fact that the son of one of the two had beaten the son of the other couple with a stick. However, as time passes, the discussion degenerates and good manners are soon forgotten.

A compelling plot, set entirely in a clean and sensible bourgeois living room, to try to resolve, as the adults and civilized people they believe they are, the quarrel that broke out in the gardens. Right from the introductory indications, feelings of tolerance and conciliation emerge in the spectator, which however soon give way to repressed nervousness, resentment and the desire to attack the other and hit him in his weak points. Reason loses control over instincts and the two couples begin to exchange increasingly less veiled insults. Resentments come to the surface, the social conventions that oblige the characters to behave civilly collapse and the true feelings at play are exposed, which reveal the wickedness and wicked nature of human nature.

The 2023-24 season of the Ambra Theatre, Ambrabramadimusicaeteatro, was born from the synergy between the DLF Alessandria-Asti and the Commedia Community/Teatro della Juta Association, with the precious support of the Piedmont Region and the collaboration of the Municipality of Alessandria.
