From today the new series “Briganti” filmed in Puglia

A modern, epic and action-packed tale, set in mid-nineteenth-century Southern Italy, on the phenomenon of brigandage seen through an unprecedented female gaze. Freely inspired by people, men and women, who actually existed and became symbols of the peasant revolution in post-unification Italy, the series is a choral tale of a story of struggle for the freedom of the last.

Starting today, Tuesday 23 April, “Briganti” is available on Netflix, the new international crime-western series, consisting of 6 episodes and produced by Fabula Pictures in association with Los Hermanos srl, with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture (DGCA), with the contribution of the Apulia Film Fund of the Apulia Film Commission and the Puglia Region using resources from the POR Puglia FESR-FSE 2014/2020.

Filmed mainly in Puglia between Lecce, Melpignano, Altamura and Nardò, “Briganti”, in addition to showcasing the wonderful Apulian territories, is a striking example of how support for audiovisual works has a truly important economic return. The contribution allocated through the Apulia Film Fund to the production had a multiplier effect during filming: an important economic investment in the area made up of expenses incurred above all for the hiring of Apulian staff on the sets and for the rental of equipment and vehicles Apulian suppliers, but also for locations, services and consumer goods. Over a hundred Apulian professionals were busy on set during the 62 days of filming.

“Briganti” is a project written by GRAMS*, the collective made up of five young authors Antonio Le Fosse, also director of the series, Re Salvador, Eleonora Trucchi, Marco Raspanti and Giacomo Mazzariol. Directed by Steve Saint Leger (Vikings, Vikings: Valhalla, Barbarians), Antonio Le Fosse himself (Baby), and Nicola Sorcinelli (Milosc).

Among the main protagonists Michela De Rossi in the role of Filomena, Ivana Lotito in the role of Ciccilla and Matilda Lutz in the role of Michelina De Cesare; Marlon Joubert is Giuseppe Schiavone and Orlando Cinque plays Pietro Monaco. Also in the cast: Gianmarco Vettori (Marchetta), Federico Ielapi (Jurillo), Giulio Beranek (Francesco Guerra) and Adriano Chiaramida (Antonio Monaco). (CREDIT FRANCESCO BERARDINELLI/Netflix)
