Savona. A group of former conscientious objectors to military service created the “Peace Workshop” initiative with the aim of spreading “a credible narrative of peace”. “We want to express our dissent towards the increase in armament spending in Italy and against any form of war, so that we do not get used to the idea of being able to continuously bomb in areas that are hotbeds of conflict, such as the Middle East”, explains Marcello Tobia, one of the promoters.

“We have no illusions about achieving results, we simply intend to stimulate everyone’s conscience – he underlines – We have no logos or flags and we are not united in an association, even if we are thinking about this together, we are people from all cultural and social backgrounds . We like to be spontaneous, not catalogued, to respect everyone’s identity. Our main idea is to provide counter-information to make up for the shortcomings of the state media.”

To celebrate the birth of the initiative, its promoters have organized a series of events. On Saturday 27 April at 9pm in the Church of Sant’Andrea Apostolo the concert “Note di pace” will be held by the Mal D’estro Ensemble, made up of the singer Marta Giardina and Alessandro Delfino on piano, Claudio Massola on clarinets and recorders, Bruno Giordano on clarinet and saxophone and Marco Pizzorno on guitar. At the end, the participants will move to the premises of the Episcopal Curia, in Piazza del Vescovado, to begin the relay hunger strike. “We will be present day and night – We thank the Diocese of Savona-Noli for giving us hospitality in spaces normally used for temporary exhibitions”.
