GROSSETO. «Excessively slow speed was not the primary sanction for the motorist fined in recent weeks on the Aurelia all’Uccellina». The commander of the provincial police of Grosseto, Stefano Pacinireturns to an episode he had dealt with The Tyrrhenian Sea, telling the story in detail. «The fined motorist – underlines Commander Pacini – told the press his version, omitting the most important part, which then led to the primary sanction. My agents, with whom I spoke specifically about the episode, wrote in their detailed report that the man, when he saw the speed camera, slowed the car down almost to a stop, opened the window and with the telephone took over both the mobile station and the officers who, very intelligently, not only challenged him for the excessively slow speed, but also for the use of the mobile phone”.

Explanation

«The primary sanction, the specific one – specifies Stefano Pacini – was not the lack of speed, as it initially emerged, but the violation of article 173, paragraphs 2 and 3 bis, linked to the use of the radio telephone in the car. The agents challenged him both at the same time and he only showed the one that was convenient for him.” For reduced speed (article 141, paragraphs 6 and 11 of the Highway Code) a fine of 42 euros was imposed on the motorist, a healthcare worker; the fine for using a mobile phone was instead 182 euros, reduced to 132.50 with expenses, in case of payment within five days, with points deducted from the driving licence.

The revelation

Commander Stefano Pacini decided to come out to shed light on the issue because «these episodes create situations that end up putting the controllers in a bad light – he explains -: they create a climate not only of mistrust, but also of hatred towards who does this job. We know perfectly well that people are already affected by the fines that are issued, but we only try to enforce the highway code and with the utmost honesty and professionalism.” The provincial police of Grosseto, which carries out periodic checks on that stretch of Aurelia, towards Grosseto, with a program agreed with the Prefecture, has its own lay-by at the crossroads with Montiano and motorists on that stretch now try to stay under 70 kilometers times to avoid being sanctioned by the instrument. «Behaviors like those of the motorist sanctioned in Uccellina – adds Commander Pacini – are dangerous: slowing down abruptly puts the safety of other people at risk, especially when trucks arrive from behind, which have great difficulty in slowing down their speed».
