Over 3000 passports ready to be delivered to Florence, even for years, but which no one goes to collect. This was announced by the Florence Police Headquarters.

Despite numerous reminders to interested parties (also with tracked systems, such as email) from the Police Headquarters and the Commissariats of the province, on the desks of the administrative offices of the Florentine State Police there are still travel documents issued even 3 years ago.

172 those outstanding from 2021, 410 from 2022, 1239 from 2023 and already 1347 those that the respective owners have not claimed in these first months of 2024, despite the costs incurred by the latter in the preliminary investigation phase.

The Passport Office of the Administrative and Social Division of the Police Headquarters and those of the police stations of the province – San Giovanni, Rifredi Peretola, Oltrarno, Sesto Fiorentino and Empoli – “therefore draw, once again, the attention of the citizens, who at the time have submitted an application to obtain a passport, to collect it as soon as possible (with particular reference to those produced in past years)”.

In this way, any problems for the public administration will also be avoided, connected to the management of the stock of these documents, which, after a certain period of time, will unfortunately necessarily have to be destroyed.

As regards the province of Florence, “the Police Commissioner Maurizio Auriemma has focused heavily on this service to the citizen, implemented over the last few years with important innovations, such as the signing of official agreements with some hinterland municipalities for the issuing of passports outside the city “.

As already announced at the time, the Priority Agenda, to obtain a passport in case of proven urgency, is active in via della Fortezza in Florence, in the police stations of Empoli, Sesto Fiorentino, San Giovanni and, in the next few days, it will be also at those of Rifredi Peretola and Oltrarno.

From January to March 2024, 15,235 passports have already been printed in the Tuscan capital.
