In the early hours of dawn, Catanzaro woke up under the vigilant control of the local police, engaged in a targeted operation against incorrect waste separation in the city’s production and commercial activities. The initiative was launched in response to the increasing violations found, with the aim of enforcing the rules for waste disposal.
The control action, conducted by the entire team of the environmental police unit, was coordinated by commander Vincenzo Ruocco, with input from the mayor Nicola Fiorita, as part of a dedicated task force. Lieutenant Colonel Salvatore Tarantino led the operations, which led to the contestation of 26 fines for a total amount of approximately 10 thousand euros.
Giorgio Arcuri, Councilor for the Environment, comments on the outcome of the checks, highlighting the persistence of violations by numerous private activities, despite previous warnings. This behavior generates double damage for the municipal administration: on the one hand, it increases the costs of disposing of unsorted waste; on the other hand, it involves a loss of revenue due to the lack of differentiation of materials such as plastic, paper and glass.
Arcuri underlines the importance of compliance with the rules by citizens and businesses, highlighting that complete adherence to separate waste collection could not only reduce the costs borne by the institution in the long term, but also improve the overall quality of the service. On Tuesday, the day dedicated to the collection of non-separated material, it is essential to follow the provisions and refrain from providing recyclable materials.
In conclusion, the appeal is for greater collective responsibility in the field of waste management, in order to guarantee a cleaner and more sustainable environment for the city of Catanzaro.
